I've been reading lately about the power of the shadow self. The paradox is that if you ignore it, it will control you; however if you use it as a kind of big screen projector you actually can get strengthened by its supposed negativity and warn your loved ones that Mr. Hyde is waiting somewhere down that alley.

Think what would happen to you if you couldn't have nightmares. I'm writing a novel in a month as part of NanoWriMO challenge. I'm letting the dark guy out to roam.

just keep that tranquilizer gun ready in case he roams too far. Wait. It's the shadow self. Okay. Keep a flashlight handy in case he roams too far, then.

Nightmares are usually my most interesting dreams.

Can you recommend any good books about this? I'm intrigued, and before reading this, have already noted this phenomena in myself, and have been employing some various strategies for controlling my shadow self, including acting as its mother and treating it as a child. I don't know if this relates to what you were talking about, but it sort of sounds like it.

I'm going to put you on my friends list, although I see you don't post much. That's OK. I don't have much time for posting, myself. There's too much life to be lived!

PS thanks again for helping my slug and its babies. I imagine they are all hatched by now and happily slithering around Muir Woods. The next time I go there for a visit, I hope I see a banana slug, and when I do, I'll imagine it's one of our babies.
